These delicious chewy and crunchy dessert bars are made entirely in the microwave. They remind me of candy bars.
This recipe found in Taste of Home magazine.
1 package (14 oz) 396g caramels
1/4 cup (125ml) water
3/4 cup (190g) peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)-DIVIDED
4 cups (106g) Cheerios cereal (or cereal of your choice)
1 cup (136g) salted peanuts
1 cup (200g) semisweet or milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup (100g) butter or margarine
In a large microwave safe bowl, heat the caramels, water and 1/2 cup (127g) of the peanut butter on high for one minutes, stir. Continue to microwave 1 to 2 minutes longer or until melted, stirring every minute.
Add the cereal and peanuts and stir until well coated. Spread this mixture into the bottom of a 9×13″ greased baking dish.
In another bowl heat the chocolate chips, butter or margarine and the remaining 1/4 cup (64g) peanut butter in the microwave for about a minute on high or until melted. Stir well and spread it over the cereal layer. Refrigerate until set and cut into bars.
Once set the bars can be stored at room temperature.
